How Long Does Someone Stay in a Florida Drug Treatment Center?

The length of time that you spend in a Florida drug treatment center is crucial. Numerous studies show that the longer people stay in treatment, the higher rates of success they have. Thirty days of treatment is typically the given for most people due to insurance coverage and expensive out-of-pocket costs. Though thirty days is the given, it is only the minimum. Many people spend 60 to 120 days in treatment.

The phases of addiction treatment are:

Acute Adjustment

The acute adjustment period lasts 30 to 45 days. It is the length of time it takes for the addictive substances to be completely detoxified from your system. The mind is also readjusting. Health insurance plans typically cover only 30 days because it addresses the bare minimum of the physiological aspect of addiction.

Physical Healing

Prolonged substance use puts a major toll on the body. The physical healing phase lasts 30 to 60 days. Healthy diet and exercise are critical during the physical healing period to restore health.

Psychological Healing

Psychological healing is the most complex and difficult phase of addiction recovery. It lasts 90 or more days. Many people’s addictions are fueled by the need to assuage psychological distress (e.g. abuse in childhood, single traumatic events, depression, stress, etc.). Psychological healing addresses the individual’s errors in thinking and makes effort to correct them via individual therapy, group therapy, spirituality, etc.

Why At Least 90 Days is the Most Beneficial

Thirty days of treatment has never shown high success rates. A study conducted on doctors and airplane pilots who were mandated to go to treatment by their jobs for showed that there was a 90 percent success rate when individuals went to treatment for at least 90 days. The believed reasons behind 90 days being the magic number is the recovering individuals have more time without the addictive substance in their system and 90 days provides enough time to holistically treat addiction.
