What’s a Fun Way to Spend Fourth of July if You’re in a Florida Recovery Center?

Fourth of July can be a difficult holiday to celebrate when you’re spending time in a Florida recovery center. In past years, it’s likely that you would be partying with friends and abusing substances without worrying about the consequences.

However, just because you’re now committed to your recovery, that doesn’t mean that you can’t still have fun on the 4th. There are still plenty of ways to celebrate that will be both enjoyable and memorable. We’ve come up with several solutions for you to use so you can still ring in the new year in style.

4th of July Activities for Recovery Centers

Host a Karaoke Night

Karaoke night can still be a blast without the use of drugs and alcohol. Machines are usually cheap and easy to rent, and everyone can join in the fun by stepping up to the microphone and belting out their favorite song. Although it can seem intimidating at first if you’re not used to being in the spotlight, once you’ve tried your hand at it, you might even find yourself up there for a second or third round.

Play a Board Game

Board games are having a real moment right now, and you might just find a fun new hobby if you give them a try. Break out some classic games like Monopoly or Clue, or try your hand at some newer ones to find a favorite. Some great options include:

  • Telestrations, which is like the telephone game combined with Pictionary.
  • Settlers of Catan, a world-building game that is easy to learn and very popular.
  • Ticket to Ride, which allows you to build a train route across America while you gain points.

No matter which type of game you choose, you’ll have a fun and entertaining activity that will last all night long.

Plan a Movie Marathon

Everyone loves going to the movies, but you can bring movie night to you with a little advanced planning. Select movies from the same genre to build a theme (horror, romantic comedy, musicals, etc.) or pick your favorite actor or actress and tailor a night around only their films. Start with one of the early roles and try to snag a more recent movie as well so you can watch their career evolve before your very eyes. Pop some popcorn or grab some candy before you settle in, and it will be just like you’re at your very own personal movie theater.

Hold a Fantastic Feast

This could mean a number of different things, depending on your recovery center. If you have access to the kitchen equipment, plan out a meal that will wow everyone and keep them full as the clock strikes midnight. Pasta is an easy and affordable way to cook for a group, so put your culinary skills to use and whip up something delicious.

If you’re unable to cook, you can still indulge in a smorgasbord of food. Even an assortment of chips, dips, and cookies will delight everyone, so don’t hold back on the goodies. Feel free to toast with some sparkling cider at midnight to ring in the new year.

Host a Sober Soiree

Sometimes a dance party is just what you need to pass the time. Queue up a playlist of your favorite songs, put on an outfit that makes you feel good, and dance the night away while others join you. This kind of activity gives you a great workout that will boost your endorphins at the same time, making it the perfect 4th of July activity for a group.

Tackle a Trivia Night

Divide up into teams and put on your thinking caps as you work together to answer the questions. This kind of game is fun, challenging, and great for large groups. Subjects can range from scholarly topics like history and literature to more recent pop culture areas, like movies and music. Be sure to keep score to see who wins, and offer a small prize to the top table for bragging rights.
