How Can a Drug Rehab Center Support You After Inpatient Treatment?

The time you invest in an inpatient addiction treatment program is something you should value. If you are truly committed to the treatment process, you have every reason to believe you can maintain your sobriety until the end of time.

However, you need to understand that you will face challenges along the way. Temptation and your triggers are always going to be part of your life. As long as your addiction lives in your soul, you have to be diligent.

Of course, you don’t have to be alone in recovery. If you learned nothing else during treatment, you should have at least learned that there are resources out there to help you in times of need. All you need to do is reach out for help when the time comes.

As part of the treatment process, your therapist and the rehab’s administrative staff most likely schooled you on the availability of aftercare resources. Hopefully, you took note of what they told you because there will likely come a time when you need that information.

In most cases, rehab facilities, ours included, will offer you information about the following aftercare options:

  • Ongoing outpatient care
  • Living in a sober living environment
  • Participating in 12 Step programs like AA and NA
  • Getting involved with rehab alumni programs and events

For you, any one of these options could make a difference between you relapsing or staying sober. It’s just a matter of you doing what’s necessary to protect yourself and your recovery.

For your rehab’s part, they can certainly tell you where to find 12 Step programs in the local area, They most likely can also give you a referral to a good sober living home in which you can take refuge until you feel strong enough to return to your home.

These are aftercare resources with which rehab facility may or may not be directly involved. As for the direct support your rehab facility rehab can provide, please read the section below.

We mentioned two other aftercare options, those being ongoing outpatient care and giving you access to alumni programs and events. Let’s discuss these options a little further.

After successfully completing an inpatient treatment program, you most likely have sober time under your belt. It’s a good bet you want to keep that time and let it keep growing.

Since you already have a connection to a rehab facility, it should be easy for you to schedule outpatient counseling sessions. Assuming your sobriety is still be intact, a little extra therapy might be all you need to take the edge off whatever it is that’s bothering you.

A general outpatient treatment program works very well for someone who is sober but standing on the edge of relapse. To participate, you would need to report for treatment a couple of days a week for a couple of hours a day. During that time, you would get an opportunity to discuss the things that are bothering you. Just the fact you would be able to discuss such matters should really help.

As an alumnus of a particular rehab facility, you would also get an opportunity to stay connected to other recovering addicts. These are people with which you have something in common. All of you want very much to stay sober. To help keep alumnus connected, a lot of rehab facilities offer intermittent alumni programs and events.

Sometimes, the events might be educational in nature while other times, they might be social events. At all times, it’s the rehab facility’s way of staying connected and offering ongoing help.

If you really want to maintain your sobriety, then you need to take advantage of as many of the aforementioned aftercare options as possible. You don’t want to miss out on opportunities to get support from people who care about you.
