Opiates such as heroin and Oxycontin and benzodiazepines such as Xanax or Valium also can have both immediate withdrawal effects and post-acute withdrawal effects, meaning that once their body is no longer physically dependent, they still crave the drug, even weeks or months after they have ceased using it.
